Pet Travel was founded in 1998 by a travel agent, Jerry Hatfield, and his best friend, a Shih Tzu named Ruggles. Despite his interest in traveling with a pet, major hotels did not advertise themselves as being pet friendly and finding accommodations that would accept Ruggles was a challenge. After much researching, Jerry launched a website, dedicated to providing pet friendly hotels and other information to traveling pet owners. After a name change in 2011, PetTravel.com was born.

Today, all of our employees work full time providing accurate and up to date information on pet passport and pet immigration information for almost every country in the world. Pet Travel is referred by the USDA and CFIA (Canada) as well as numerous embassies, the State Department, and military agencies worldwide. We are also referred by all the major airlines for pet travelers with questions on traveling by air with their pets.

Pet Travel has grown significantly with 8 people working full and part time on making the PetTravel.com website more comprehensive and useful for the traveling pet owner. The Pet Travel Store opened in 2006 with an inventory of pet microchips, pet scanners, pet cargo crates and in-cabin carriers. Our store and corporate offices are located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where our employees work everyday serving pet travelers.

In 2011, we opened our sister company, Pet Travel Transport. This company assists with transporting pets both in and out of the United States when their owners cannot travel with them. We can handle pre travel veterinary visits, document preparation, validation and endorsement. We route and book your pet on the airlines that have a history of handling pets and fly the most direct route to your destination. We can also handle customs clearance and delivery.

Pet owners who travel worldwide with their pet can find pet import rules for traveling to over 220 countries on Pet Travel.
